Goals, principles and mission statement

Goals

pro familia is committed to the realization of the human rights in family planning, announced by the United Nations in 1968 in Tehran, and supports the following on a political level:

  • The interests of everyone in the area of sexual and reproductive health and rights [implementation of the IPPF charter (see below)]
  • The equality of everyone regardless of gender, sexual orientation, sexual identity, way of life, origin or disability
  • A society in which physical, mental and sexual violence is condemned, and everything possible is done to prevent it happening
  • The right of women and men to decide on the number of children and time for children freely and responsibly, which also includes the right to abortion
  • A critical approach to medical methods in the area of reproduction and sexuality
  • A universal coverage of offers with low barriers of access, in which these goals are professionally implemented through appropriate programs in the areas of advice, medical care and sexual education

Principles of the work

pro familia places a great deal of importance on

  • The programs being available to everyone seeking advice and interested persons – regardless of gender, age, nationality, ethnicity, culture, religion, sexual orientation, sexual identity, life style, income capacity or disability
  • All those seeking advice and interested persons being able to decide on the programs voluntarily
  • All clients being recognized as experts in their lives and their concerns being treated respectfully
  • The support building on their strengths and resources
  • The protection of personal data being guaranteed and employees having a duty of confidentiality
  • Standards being developed for all work areas, and the professional and personal competence of the employees being promoted through regular further trainings, internal and external supervision and a continual quality assurance process
  • Work being continually documented and evaluated – including feedback systems from clients and cooperation partners
  • Developing and maintaining of close collaboration and networking with other organizations and institutions
  • Always being open to social developments and new research findings, and modifying its programs to changed requirements accordingly
