What is mediation?

In mediation professional mediators mediate neutrally between the parties of the conflict. Through a fair negotiation one gets to solutions that are accepted by both parties. The solutions are based on the needs and expectations of all stakeholders. At the end there is a binding agreement.

Mediation is e.g. for couples who want to regulate the consequences of their separation or divorce together in personal responsibility and want to find a solution to which they can mutually agree.

Mediation saves partners and children grueling conflicts and long court proceedings. It enables parents to continue to bear their responsibilities together. Mediation allows to preserve mutual respect and to separate without enmity.

The partners determine themselves, about which issues in dispute they want to negotiate, e.g.:

  • How can we bear our common responsibility as a parent after separation?
  • How can we avoid that every conflict becomes a dispute?
  • Where will the children live after separation?
  • How can our children continue to have contact to both of us?
  • How is the maintenance regulated?
  • What will happen to the apartment or house?
  • How to distribute income and wealth?

Mediation usually requires 5 to 8 sessions of 1 to 1.5 hours. It costs around 200 Euro per hour. The costs are covered by some legal expenses insurance.
